About Us

Hanson Plywood Ltd are a privately owned company operating primarily in the import, storage, sales and distribution of wood based panel products. The business stocks a wide range of unique and specialist panels in addition to readily available commodity products.

Brief History

The business was established in 1987 with 2 members of staff from a small office and rented warehouse in Halifax. During the initial years of trading the company shared transport and materials handling facilities before finally purchasing its first delivery vehicle; a second-hand flat back rigid lorry.

Through steady growth and progression, the business eventually moved to Drakes Industrial Estate in Ovenden, Halifax in 1997. By this point, staff had increased to 12 and turnover had reached £5 million.

Further growth allowed the company to acquire land from Halifax Rugby Union Club in order to construct its own purpose-built office and warehouse facility. Construction finished in 2007 and the company continues to further develop on this site. The business now occupies 80000 square feet of warehousing space, owns its own dedicated delivery fleet of vehicles and employs 70+ members of staff.

Present Day

The company strives to make life easy for architects, designers and specifiers by presenting products with clear and easily understandable performance criteria. Our aim is to be instructive and helpful to our customers, whilst also being innovative and progressive in our services.

Our plywood panels are listed within NBS Source which provides specifiers with all the tools and digital information needed to find, select & specify the correct Hanson Plywood product to meet project requirements. Staff are trained in timber technology and therefore able to advise in all aspects of specification and utilisation of materials.

As members of the Timber Trade federation (now TDUK), we are committed to being at the forefront in both environmental and technical standards. The company is a signatory to the federation’s Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP) which provides a reliable and robust framework to ensure products are legally and sustainably sourced.

The company is certified and registered to operate in both FSC®  (Forest Stewardship Council®)  and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest certification) chain of custody schemes, with over 87% of all our purchases being certified to either scheme. This ensures that products are sourced from sustainable and well-managed forests whilst assisting construction companies in meeting the UK Timber Procurement Policy.

Membership to TDUK (Timber Development UK) ensures that we are fully engaged with all aspects relating to the technical understanding and development of timber based products and their utilisation across a large and varied range of industries.

The company is also ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 registered, which means that management systems are in place to enable the continual improvement and development of business processes and allow for the identification and reduction of environmental impacts.
